Enzo Ferrari dedicated his life to perfecting the right concoction of machine and speed. And though he is gone, his Scuderia long remains as his legacy and one of the most valuable Ferraris today. Unmistakably, two of the world’s most expensive cars ever sold at auction are under his name.
Here is a comprehensive list of the world’s most expensive cars bought both privately and at auction.
5. Rolls Royce Sweptail
Sold Price:A$16.87 million
While most people will focus on the $16 million figure, that’s almost irrelevant when it comes to the Rolls-Royce Sweptail, a coachbuilt Phantom Coupé with a two-digit British license plate milled from ingots of aluminium and then hand polished for a mirror finish.
The inspiration came from the cars of the “golden era,” otherwise known as the short period when Europe wasn’t at war in the first half of the 20th century.
The features of this bespoke art on wheels include an uninterrupted glass roof – possibly the biggest glass ever placed on a car at its time of creation in 2017. The interior is a masterpiece of its own, polished Macassar Ebony and an open-pore Paldao that is contrast to the light Mocassin and dark spice leather.
4. Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta
Sold Price:A$22.84 million
With only three Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta’sever built and all three already sold – featching for A$22.84 million, the name Barchetta was given according to Horatio Pagani, because it resembled a little boat.
The body of this supercar is a masterpiece built from carbon fibre contributing to its lightweight. The Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta reaches top speeds of 220 mph or 355kph and can accelerate from 0 to 60mph (0-100kph) in 3.4 seconds. Under the hood:A massive 6.0-litre Biturbo V12 engine with 789bhp.
3.Bugatti La Voiture Noire

Just like the Sweptail, Bugatti’s little black caris a one-off model. Bugatti enthusiasts call it the modern spirit animal of the Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic. The Bugatti La Voiture Noirewas sold before its unveiling in Geneva in 2019.
This unique supercar is designed with a hand-sculpted carbon-fibre shell and its quad-turbo W16 8.10L engine. Selling for A$24.53 million, the Bugatti is equipped with 1500 horsepower and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (0-100kph) in 2.4 seconds – with a top speed of 260 mph (420 kph).
2.1957 Ferrari 335 S Spider Scaglietti

At an auction in Paris, 2016, the 1957 Ferrari 335 S Spider Scaglietti– a piece of motoring history – was compared to a Picasso and broke all records when it was sold for A$35.7 million. Rumour has it that Lionel Messi, football player extraordinaire at FC Barcelona, won the bid.
Only four of these Ferrari models were ever built and this particular one was driven by Ferrari’s best drivers including Stirling Moss and Mike Hawthorne. Under the hood:A Ferrari with a 4.1-litre V12 engine enabling it to reach a top speed of 190 mph (305 kph).
1. 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO
