The BMW Garmisch was designed by one of Italy’s most influential car designers, Marcello Gandini. Built in Turin, the vehicle was initially designed as a surprise show car for the Geneva Motor Show in 1970. In 2019, the car was recreated with Gandini, now in his eighties. The design team retained the unique features of the car, including the interior vertical radio on the centre console and fold out passenger mirror.

The BMW 2002 was sold in two states of tune, with the base single-carburettor 2002 producing 101 hp, and the dual-carburettor high compression 2002 producing 119 hp.
