Take the Fuss Out of Cooking with these Top-Rated Australian Meal Subscriptions

For those with a busy schedule or just a general disdain for cooking after a long day at work, meal subscription services are a godsend. Serving as an effective way to maintain a healthy diet while also cutting the time and energy out of choosing and preparing a nutritious meal to eat, meal kit services are fast becoming a full replacement to the weekly grocery shop. And if assembling a meal with pre-measured ingredients is still too time-consuming, more subscription services are offering ready-made meals to your door.

But as more and more meal subscription companies pop up it can be hard to know which subscription service to choose. Using the ratings from consumers and Australian consumer advocacy group, CHOICE, we’ve narrowed down some of the best meal delivery services, including both meal kits and ready-made meal boxes, in Australia.

HelloFresh

Named CHOICE’s best food box delivery service in Australia, HelloFresh has been providing nutritious meal boxes to Australians since 2012. Offering a range of meal kit types, including family-friendly and vegetarian kits, at an affordable price point, HelloFresh ticks all the boxes for a food subscription service. After selecting your meals from a rotating list of recipes, wait for your box to arrive complete with an easy-to-follow recipe card and pre-portioned ingredients to take the fuss out of cooking. Those who have a busy schedule can also cut their cooking time down further by selecting the quick and easy subscription type which allows you to get meals that can be cooked in half an hour or less.

While HelloFresh doesn’t deliver to Tasmania, the highly-rated meal kit service delivers across all other states. A standard two-person box with three meals per week is priced at A$65.95, excluding shipping.

Chefgood

Made with locally sourced ingredients by real chefs, Chefgood provides high-quality ready-made meals for you to enjoy. From vegetarian and vegan sets to weight-loss plans, Chefgood offers a range of choices with more than 30 meal choices each week.

Currently, Chefgood delivers to NSW, VIC, ACT, QLD and SA and is priced at around A$11.90 per person per meal, excluding delivery.

Marley Spoon

The Dinner Ladies

Another highly rated prepared meal subscription service is The Dinner Ladies. Offering more than 35 meal choices each week, The Dinner Ladies whip up classic home-cooked meals and deliver them, frozen, to your door. Think classic beef lasagne, spinach and ricotta cannelloni, cottage pie and minestrone soup. Many of the meals also come in a small and large size, although most reviews suggest that the portions tend to be pretty generous. While The Dinner Ladies offer plenty of hearty meat-based dishes, there’s also a vegetarian category too.

Currently, The Dinner Ladies deliver to NSW, ACT and VIC and price their meals at around A$9 per person per meal.

Dinnerly

Offering around 24 meal choices each week, Dinnerly is one of Australia’s most affordable meal kit services. Using high-quality ingredients, Dinnerly prepares your meals for as low as A$4.85 per serving. However, this means the meals are based on more simplistic recipes with fewer ingredients, which arrive combined in the box. The recipe cards are also only provided online.

Dinnerly currently ships to most areas Australia-wide. A two-person box with three meals per week costs A$43, excluding delivery.
