V12 Hypercar: Aston Martin Reveals the New Valkyrie Spider

It’s like a Formula One driving experience but on the road – the all-new convertible by Aston Martin – the Valkyrie Spider. While prices haven’t been announced, the new Valkyrie Spider is expected to be more than the circa-$5m coupe version with only 85 models being manufactured worldwide.

The driving experience promises to be truly sensational. The sound of that 6.5-litre V12 engine revving to over 11,000rpm with the roof removed is something I cannot wait to hear. And Aston Martin’s CEO, Tobias Moers, is as excited as any petrol head.

And for good reason – a 1140bhp machine promises all the power, precision and technology of a formula one racer in an open-top hypercar designed for the streets. While the stats behind the menacing-looking machine are still speculatory, the convertible car is set to be the fastest open-top, road-legal machine Aston Martin has ever built.

Going head-to-head with its hard-top coupe cousin, Aston Martin says the Spider is capable of achieving 330km/h with the roof removed and 350km/h with the roof on. It’s also expected to get to 0-100km/h in near 2.5 seconds.

The key to the hypercars eye-watering performance – an ultra-lightweight construction and high downforce aerodynamics package. The Aston Martin Valkyrie Spider will reach a staggering >1400kg of downforce at 240km/h in track mode.

Don’t think for one second the convertible Aston Martin sacrifices any of its hard-topped cousin’s style. The hypercar remains as sleek and mean looking as ever, shaped by Red Bull Racing Formula 1 team designer Adrian Newey.

The bespoke, removable lightweight roof comprises a carbon fibre central panel that is simply lifted off and stowed away while the doors are open. The now front-hinged dihedral doors, which are unique to Valkyrie Spider, have been redesigned to tilt forwards.

It’s no surprise this car has received unprecedented demand. All 85 examples of the Aston Martin Valkyrie Spider have already been purchased with first deliveries scheduled for early 2022.
