Watch Out: The Latest Swatch Collaboration

Iconic watch company Swatch has joined forces with the Parisian landmark Centre Pompidou for a six-piece collection celebrating contemporary art. The selection of iconic timepieces includes works by Frida Kahlo, Amedeo Modigliani, Robert Delaunay, Vassily Kandinsky, and Piet Mondrian, and sees each reimagined as a statement watch.

Since 1985, the Swiss brand has released a number of exclusive Swatch Art Special watches before establishing its Museum Journey series in 2018. Here, museums grant Swatch access to their collection of iconic artworks as a way to make the masterpieces accessible and attainable for everybody.

So far, the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum in Madrid, the Musée du Louvre in Paris, and The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, have opened their doors to Swatch and now it is the turn of the Centre Pompidou.

Combing six of Centre Pompidou’s most iconic works with Swatch’s signature hallmarks and unexpected details, the result is a collection of wearable art that brings culture to the everyday.

The Frame by Frida Kahlo

The Frame by Frida Kahlo watch presents the artist gazing in the mirror, her image perfectly split between the six and twelve hours of the dial, as her intense stare is balanced with bright colours.

Portrait of Dédie By Amedeo Modigliani

The portrait itself takes centre stage on the silver-coloured dial with a multi-coloured print. This Swatch X Centre Pompidou Collection watch features a first-ever for Swatch: Modigliani’s signature on the 12 o’clock strap.

A multi-coloured all-over print covers the semi-transparent matte blue silicone strap and transparent dial. A calendar wheel on the dial that changes colour brings a touch of Swatch personality to this watch.

Eiffel Tower by Robert Delaunay

The second of Robert Delaunay’s masterpieces selected for this collaboration, the watch honours the “from below” angle in the original painting, while the dial, strap and hands feature vibrant reds, yellows, oranges and blues.

Red, Blue and White by Piet Mondrian

This watch pays tribute to the founding father of geometric abstraction. Swatch has ensured that the exact tonalities of the original artwork are depicted with a solid matte black strap and a black dial so the oversized white and red hands are in focus.

Blue Sky by Vassily Kandinsky

Swatch reproduces Kandinsky’s deep and textural painting technique with the colourful and intriguing characters of the original painting taking residence over the watch strap and face.
