World’s Skinniest Skyscraper Opens for Residents in Manhattan’s Billionaires Row

First announced in 2013, 111 West 57th also known as Steinway Tower has completed construction and is ready for residents.

At just 17.5 metres wide with a width ratio of 1:24, the scaling tower is ‘the most slender skyscraper in the world’ according to the developers.

Standing 1,428 feet tall on the southern end of Central Park in Manhattan known as Billionaires Row, it’s also one of the tallest buildings in the Western Hemisphere.

Designed by SHoP Architects and erected by JDS Development Group, the tower features an innovative glass and terracotta facade becoming a striking addition to the New York City skyline.

The design team were tasked with creating a ‘new and bold interpretation’ of New York’s skyline – a powerful statement building true to its historic roots.

Any preconceived notions that our team had about skyscrapers of New York City developments were replaced with an opportunity to do something that had never been done before.

The 84-storey complex becomes an addition to the adjacent 16-story Steinway Hall that’s a designated New York City landmark built-in 1925.

A concert hall and former headquarters of famous piano maker Steinway and Sons, the venue was converted into luxury residences that now connect to the rest of the tower.

Accommodating one resident per floor, 111 West 57th features 60 luxury condominiums, 14 in Steinway Hall and 46 in the tower, with a studio apartment starting at over A$10 million.

Crowned by a 662 square metre triplex penthouse, the Triplex Park Loggia Penthouse 72 is listed for sale for over A$88 million. Commanding 360 degree views across Central Park and New York, the four-bedroom, the five-bathroom penthouse features a slew of luxury appointments including a 15 metre wide living room and a 125 Square metre private loggia.

The interiors were crafted by Studio Sofield attempting to emulate the grandeur of the exterior where residences feature floor-to-ceiling windows, marble bathrooms, walk-in dressing rooms, and master suites.

Residents are also privy to a plethora of luxury amenities including a discreet porte-cochere entrance, an 82-foot lap pool, a sauna, steam and treatment rooms and a double-height fitness centre.
