Zorzi Builders Wins Top WA Home Title for Mesmerising Dalkeith Abode

In a year of unprecedented developments and challenges for the state’s housing industry, a stunning mansion overlooking the Swan River has received the Bankwest Top WA Home award.

Zorzi Builders carried off the top prize at the 2021 Master Builders-Bankwest Housing Excellence Awards for their Dalkeith masterpiece, The Peak.

The 41st annual awards were held during a year of global turmoil and shifting pandemic restrictions, yet despite the uncertainty, 26 judges evaluated nearly 300 housing entries in 60 categories, with a total building value of just under $165 million.

The Peak, perched on the banks of the Swan, is a four-story mansion intended to optimise spectacular river views and includes one of the largest sky-framed windows in the southern hemisphere.

A prime example of the beauty and complexity of the design is the spiral staircase, created from a single pipe and cut into curled handrails.

Chief Judge Robert Shaw said the top home exceeded all expectations in attention to detail.

“Flawless is the only word that comes to mind when I think of this home. From inside out, Zorzi’s The Peak is the epitome of a modern masterpiece,” he said.

“The home is illuminated with windows from all angles. It is decked out with a plethora of perfectly executed elements, including a basalt stone feature wall which flows throughout the home.

“These top-tier homes tend to have a smaller margin for error given their grandeur. The complex nature of The Peak is a testament to the talent and expertise present within the Zorzi team and something they should all be proud of,” Shaw concluded.

Over the evening, Zorzi was recognised in nearly every trade-specific award, including excellence in painting, ceilings, plastering, carpentry and external finishes.

Winners of other major categories included Bluewater Building for Best Country Home, Plunkett Homes for Best Display Home and Amerex Renovations and Additions for Best Alterations and Additions.

Master Builders executive director John Gelavis was impressed by the high caliber of entries in a uniquely difficult year.

“During such unprecedented times, we were pleased to see our members continuing to strive for excellence,” he said.

“Last year, we celebrated our 2020 awards with no idea what was around the corner. It has been an extremely challenging year, and despite setbacks, we have seen some incredible work produced,” he concluded.

The awards were held on May 29 at Crown Perth. The eligible WA winners will compete against the best of other states and territories at the Master Builders national awards at Crown Perth on November 27.
