Gateway Mining (GML) has begun work on a major new drilling program at its Gidgee gold project in Western Australia’s Murchison region.

The New South Wales-based mineral explorer has already submitted initial samples to a commercial laboratory, with results expected to be received through the second quarter.

An initial 16,000-metre air-core program has commenced at the new Julias target. Assay results from RC drilling completed in November 2021 have highlighted the shallow, high-grade nature of mineralisation at Julias.

The air-core and reverse circulation drilling is aimed at building on the company’s existing 449,000-ounce mineral resource estimate (MRE).

Gidge says air-core drilling at Julias is primarily aimed at extending the strike of known mineralisation, including to the north-east high-grade mineralisation is completely open.

Following the completion of the air-core program, a reverse circulation rig is booked for Gidgee. It will be focused on Julias, where a drill pattern will be completed of sufficient density to enable a maiden mineral resource estimate to be undertaken.

The project’s MRE was last updated in December by systematic drilling of targets within a 5km radius of existing known mineral resources.

Significant assay results from drilling at Julias in November 2021 included 9m at 3.5 g/t gold from 67m and 9m at 3.4 g/t gold from 55m.

“Our 2022 exploration field season is already in full swing with major new programs of air-core and RC drilling underway,” Gateway Managing Director Mark Cossom said. “Air-core drilling is already in progress to expand the exciting Julias-Flametree gold trend. This will be followed by a program of systematic RC drilling at Julias to upgrade this exciting discovery to JORC Resource status. Additional drilling (is) also planned at Kashmir in the first half of the year.”

Gateway Mining opened the day trading down 4.17 per cent at 1.2 cents.
