Great Southern Mining (GSN) has identified a large intrusive gold system at the Leichhardt Creek Prospect.
The Leichhardt Creek Prospect lies within Great Southern’s Edinburgh Park Project in North Queensland.
A recent mapping and geochemical sampling program have identified a vast geochemical alteration system that is consistent with an intrusive related gold system.
Sampling program
This geochemical sampling program consisted of 652 soil samples and 11 rock chip samples and it was the first systematic gold-focused exploration program to be undertaken in the area.
Work was completed over highly prospective targets identified during aerial geophysics and geological mapping.
While the identification of the intrusive related gold system was the most significant result, well-defined gold, silver, antimony, arsenic, copper, bismuth, zinc, lead, and molybdenum levels were also identified.
Mapping program
Great Southern’s mapping program outlined the presence of low-sulphide quartz veins that could span for hundreds of metres. These veins consist of fine comb quartz and have a core of manganese oxides.
Several mineralised breccias were also identified.
“This is the first systematic soil geochemistry and mapping program over this area and it has been hugely successful in uncovering the anomilisation signature of a large intrusive related gold system at Leichhardt Creek,” Chief Operating Officer Mark Major said.
“The geochemical program results have presented a clear set of geochemical pathfinder elements within this system which can be applied, along with typical geophysical and geological features, to propel our exploration efforts onto the gold-bearing zones,” he added.
A more extensive soil sampling and mapping program will now be undertaken to outline the full extent of the mineralised systems.
Great Southern is steady on the market and shares are trading for 15 cents each at 4:03 pm AEST.
