Karoon Energy (KAR) has appointed Dr Julian Fowles as its new CEO and Managing Director.

Julian has over 30 years’ experience, which started when he worked a geologist for multinational oil and gas company, Shell. He spent 17 years working in global assignments, including five years as the Exploration and New Ventures Manager at Shell Brazil.

Dr Fowles also held leadership positions at Cairn India, Petra Energia, and Oil Search (OSH), where he led the PNG-operated and non-operated oil and LNG production and development businesses.

“Julian’s deep upstream experience in international leadership roles, including CEO experience in Brazil, and company building success will be of great benefit to Karoon as it transitions from a pure exploration company into a profitable E&P entity,” Chairman Bruce Phillips said.

Dr Fowles is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and holds a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Geology, from the University of Edinburgh. He also has a PhD from the University of Cambridge.

“I am looking forward to the opportunity to lead Karoon Energy at this exciting
time for the company as it seeks to consolidate the acquisition of the Baúna asset and in the next phase of its growth as a substantial oil and gas production company,” Julian said.

As part of the appointment, Julian will relinquish the two non-executive director positions he currently holds in ASX-listed Central Petroleum (CTP) and Far (FAR), to concentrate on his new role at Karoon.

Dr Fowles will step into his role following Karoon’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on November 27, 2020.

Company shares are up a slight 2.23 per cent and trading for 91.5 cents at 11:17 am AEDT.
