King River Resources (KRR) is progressing a pre-feasibility study (PFS) at its Speewah Speciality Metals Project in the East Kimberley of WA.

The company is positioning itself to use its Speewah deposits to be a significant producer of 4N (99.99 per cent aluminium oxide) high-purity alumina (HPA) in the LED, electric vehicle battery, smartphone and television screen, and other high-tech product markets.

Last month, the company removed the need for a second stage ion exchange circuit for the crystallisation process. King River said it will complete further testing on the calcination of the HPA precursor, making sure no contaminants are introduced to 4N (99.99 per cent aluminium oxide) HPA product.

Further to last month’s announcement, the metallurgical test work, King River’s purification process, has produced a high precursor compound with the main contaminant metals at very low levels.

This precursor could be suitable for the production of 4N HPA after calcination and washing.

“These very low contaminant levels are required because on calcination the mass and volume of the precursor is significantly reduced due to off-gassing of volatile elements, which causes the levels of contaminants to increase in the final HPA calcined product,” the company explained.

The first batch of HPA samples has been sent to an independent umpire laboratory. Results will provide information about the assays and help identify sources of contamination in the testwork.

Como Engineers are completing the process plant and infrastructure design and costing, which will be based on the updated flowsheet and final production of 4N HPA.

King River is aiming to release the PFS as soon as it completes the remaining tasks.

At market close, King River is down 3.23 per cent and is trading for three cents per share.
