Kleos Space (KSS) has signed a contract with Spaceflight Inc to launch a group of its satellites on the SpaceX Falcon 9.

This group will be the second to be launched by Kleos, with the first four Kleos Scouting Mission satellites located in the Sriharikota Range in India.

These are currently awaiting launch by the Indian Space Research Organisation.

This mission with SpaceX, which was founded by Elon Musk, will be named ‘Polar Vigilance Mission’ and consist of four satellites launched into a 500 kilometre sun-synchronous orbit (a nearly polar orbit around a planet – completing one orbit per year).

The aim of this mission is to enhance Kleos’ radio-frequency geolocation data obtained from its Scouting Mission satellites by covering areas north and south of its orbit. It’s also aiming to increase overall coverage time from the satellites.

“Our vision is to deliver a trustworthy, cost effective, reconnaissance data product with revisit rates that will help disrupt illegal activities, protect borders and save lives,” Kleos CEO Andy Bowyer said.

“The launch of the Polar Vigilance Mission means we take another step on that journey, collecting more data over new areas opening additions markets whilst also providing a higher value product for our existing customer base,” he added.

Kleos has ended the day, August 13, 4.92 per cent in the green with shares trading for 32 cents each in a $38.40 million market cap.
