Linius Technologies (LNU) has launched the first phase of the Whizzard education solution for the University of Newcastle.

Whizzard was launched for the University of Newcastle’s “Living Histories” archives and library and is now available to over 6000 staff and researchers.

Deployment demonstrated increased research capabilities, improved quality of research, increased collaborations and efficiency gains for researchers and librarians.

“We are incredibly proud to be the first university globally to launch Whizzard, and with that having the opportunity to input into product features and design,” University of Newcastle Chief Information Officer Anthony Molinia said.

“We are excited by the first use-case now implemented for historical archives and increasing our research capabilities across GLAMx. With this first phase now launched, we are looking forward to working with Linius on the next iteration of Whizzard.”

Whizzard is a video conferencing and enterprise collaboration solution that allows users to search, assemble and share video content from recorded meetings.

Users can then compile snippets of different videos into a new playlist to review and prepare for assessments.

Now that the first phase of Whizzard has been launched, Linius and the University of Newcastle are planning the next phase to apply it more widely across the campus.

“This is a significant milestone for Linius and the roll-out of our education solution for the higher education sector,” Linius CEO James Brennan commented.

“Throughout the development period, we discovered multiple use-cases, including a market opportunity and need for the product across galleries, libraries, archives, and museums (GLAMx); which is a proposition marketable and repeatable for Linius to a much broader audience.”

Linius was up 20 per cent with shares trading at 0.6 cents at 1:17 pm AEST.
