WHERE TO FIND
To be lucky, you must believe in luck. This is what Jacques Arpels liked to say. He was often seen picking up four-leaf clovers and handing them out as good luck charms to employees.
It's no wonder that Van Cleef & Arpels has had luck as its perpetual guiding light all throughout these years. But more than that, the four-leaf clover motif has inspired and is continuing to inspire the Maison's most iconic creations.
The four-leaf clover first appeared in the 1920s though was not front and centre, as it came out along with other symbols of good luck such as altruistic fairies, charms and wooden talismans. In 1968 this changed and the four-leaf clover symbol was etched in history with the release of the first Alhambra long necklace. The elegant design of a yellow-gold, 20 clover-shaped motif, accentuated with a trim of golden beads. And from this point, Van Cleef & Arpels established this motif as a timeless symbol of luck.
This collection remains true to the original and first Alhambra necklace created in 1968. Faithful to that design aesthetic, Vintage Alhambra pieces are recognised for their exceptionally iconic and immaculate craftsmanship.
Vintage Alhambra long necklace
With 20 identical four-leaf clover motifs, this necklace is designed in yellow gold with an 84 cm chain and hallmark clasp. The motifs are embossed with blue agate which accents the yellow gold and makes perfect for any occasion. This necklace can be worn as a long, single chain or can be doubled to make two chains from the one.
The motifs can also be designed in chalcedony, onyx, letterwood, carnelian, diamond and mother of pearl for a different look and feel.
Vintage Alhambra bracelet
To cap off an ensemble, this 5 motif bracelet ties in perfectly to accessorise an evening look or dress up a daytime outfit.
The Magic collection prides itself on being boldly asymmetrical. Not only that, the motifs come in a variety of sizes, but still creating a harmonious combination of shapes and materials. It came into life in 2006 and the inspiration behind such asymmetry is the four-leaf clover itself.
Between the Finger ring
The between the finger ring has long been a staple for any Van Cleef & Arpels collection which represents its innovation and inventive spirit. An open band links two different sized motifs, juxtaposed on your finger like a delicate tête-à-tête, a piece of art in itself.
Magic Alhambra long necklace
With a single motif hanging down in the middle, this piece is transformable. It can also be worn short with a doubled chain.
One thing that will draw you toward this collection is how light and delicate the designs feel as if emanating a spirit of grace and lightness. Perhaps it's because of the smaller motifs, combined with a variety of hearts and butterflies which animates the collection.
