Built-in 2016, this work of art, science, and engineering was designed by naval architect Espen Oeino and crowned off with an elegant interior designed by Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design.
Fascinated by the world of sailing, Espen would spend hours on end studying keenly the boats in the brokers section; this got him hooked and on a career path that would lead him to be considered one of the most influential exterior designers in the yachting world.
Espen Oeino has made revolutionary efforts in building sustainable yachts that are more efficient and as eco-friendly as possible. Oeino's taken a fresh take at everything from materials such aluminium, waste reduction and disposal to alternative propulsion methods and fuels.
The Dutch shipyard Heesen specialises in custom aluminium luxurious superyachts known for their innovations in efficiency and performance and this superyacht is no exception. At 70 meters overall, the Galactica Super Nova is the largest Heesen Yacht built to date.
In an interview conducted by Yacht International, Oeino was quoted saying, “A major part of the brief was to bring in new elements while preserving the strong brand recognition that Heesen enjoys,” Oeino says, who was also responsible for the bespoke deck furniture and fittings.
“So, we stepped up the exterior design with the arches on the sundeck, the chamfered edges and the level of detailing in general. Every single detail has been considered. For instance, both the flagpole and the jackstaff present quite complex yet elegant and fluent lines. To me, she still looks very much like a Heesen, which was all part of the plan,” he says.
The Galactica Super Nova features advanced technology, including the revolutionary fast-displacement hull that combines comfort and speed. The vessel’s sea trials reported that the 229-footer reached a maximum speed of 30.3 knots in 75 seconds, exceeding the record top speed by 0.3 knots, making it one of the fastest yachts of its size.
This grand yacht comes fitted with “zero speed stabilisers” which work when it is anchored, stabilising the on-board environment, increasing comfort for its passengers, especially in rough waters. The propulsion system aboard Galactica Super Nova consists of two MTU wing engines with fastened pitch propellers and a third centreline booster engine coupled with a Rolls Royce booster water jet, a first of its kind.
The Dutch designer Sander Sinot worked closely with the owner to create a classic-contemporary interior which is quintessential of elegance and comfort. Informal and understatement, is the overall atmosphere you’d experience when you get on board, yet still so inviting and sumptuous, sporting a fine balance between neutral tones and soft pops of colour.
The yacht has an amazing 357 square meters of extremely lavish deck space, fitted with fully stocked bars, sofas, and bespoke chairs, stretching all around the vessel. Large glass doors give you access to all the decks, allowing you to walk freely from inside to the fore and aft decks.
The Galactica Supernova features a foredeck that can be used as a touch-and-go helipad, for sunbathing, to host an informal dinner and can also be transformed into an outdoor cinema with a 2.25m HD screen. In addition, there is a 6-meter infinity swimming pool packed with special features including hydro-massage spa jets, waterfall, and a glass-bottom which during the day illuminates the beach club below.
At night, the club transforms into a large party space with thousands of LED light clusters that are configured to interact with the music, the kind of lighting that can also be adjusted to suit more mellow moods for a romantic dinner or a friendly cocktail reception.
Bespoke and handcrafted furniture and interior decors meet your eyes once you are inside the Galactica Supernova yacht. The spaces are styled with a touch of contemporary furnishings that are focused on all passengers’ comfort. The living area is divided into the lounging space with coffee tables, an airy dining area where you can host up to 12 guests and a sort of half arch library with a fireplace.
Aboard the Heesen Galactica Super Nova, there is accommodation provided to up to twelve guests in six beautifully appointed staterooms. These include a full-beam master suite, one VIP cabin, and four double guest cabins. The owner suite is truly splendid with floor-to-ceiling onyx panelled walls. Moreover, this space remains private and intimate in that can it only be accessed by passing by the owner’s private deck, an area completely forbidden to other guests.
But not to worry if you are guest because, at the lower deck, you have the option of choosing between one of the double rooms or twin rooms. The rooms are all impressively unique and modern, each with their own en-suite pure white Thassos marble bathrooms.
This luxury yacht is also capable of having up to 16 cabin crew members aboard, where they can stay in the 8 available cabins. The Galactica Super Nova Yacht has won several international awards including one for the Best Naval Architecture – Displacement Motor Yacht and Best Design Feature at the Showboats Design Awards 2017 in Kitzbühel.
Although the 70.07m Galactica Super Nova is currently not listed for sale, a Heesen spokesperson was mentioned to Business Insider that 10 million pounds ($13.2 million) per meter is a good estimated selling price for a yacht of this kind.
With that estimate, the Galactica Super Nova can sell anywhere in the neighbourhood of $923.6 million. A billion dollars may be a safe guess for this one of a kind superyacht. This splendid vessel is also not currently available for charter.
