This is no place for ordinary. Aspen is world-renowned for a couple of reasons - a winter playground for the billionaires and an impressive skiing destination for competitive winter sports. Arriving in Aspen's airport lined up with private jets already gives you that elite feeling of belonging to the upper crust, and the designer boutiques bordering the streets will tell you the audience that this community caters to.

Is it just skiing?

Skiing is the name of the game. You go to Aspen during the wintertime to ski and do a variety of snow activities like dog sledding, tubing, riding a Snowcat, to name a few. But it's not the only thing that you could do during winter. Aspen is also famous for its spas (St. Regis Remede Spa or Hotel Jerome's Spa) and relaxing activities (yoga, pilates, meditation, spin classes at SoulCycle AspenO2AspenAspen Shakti). If you would like to have a break from the cold, you could visit the Aspen Art Gallery, watch a show at the Wheeler Opera House or Belly Up Aspen.

But what if you visit in the summer, you ask?

Hiking (Rio Grande TrailMaroon Bells), cycling, golfing, and a ride up on the Silver Queen Gondola to see views that will take your breath away is a must during summer. You can also paddleboardcampparaglide, ride a hot air balloon, or rock climb at Gold Butte climbing area. And if you're visiting with younger children and would like to have a packed, fun-filled day, the Aspen Recreation Center is the place for you.

Soak up in Luxury and History

If you could only visit once, stay at the opulent Hotel Jerome. Not only is it an icon and a landmark since 1889, but their dining experience is also worth trying and the snow activities they offer can make your whole trip a winter to remember.

St. Regis Aspen Resort, from the luxurious brand Starwood Hotels, located at the foot of the Aspen Mountain is also a top choice. They have a fabulous spa and a unique dining concept at the Aspen Chef's Club which features 20 different dishes (from the top 20 chefs around the world).

The Little Nell is another iconic, luxurious hotel in Aspen. It's the only ski-in, ski-out hotel, very pet-friendly with their puppy jet lag kit, and has the best hot chocolate according to Travel + Leisure.

Food for the Soul (and the stomach, of course)

If you fancy a burger, it's said that Hotel Jerome's J-Bar is the best in town and is also a great place for drinks. Meat & Cheese would be best with an excellent wine pair, or you could try steaks from Steakhouse 316, and don't leave Aspen without trying the best ribs in Colorado at Hickory House Ribs. If you're in the mood for something else, Mi Chola for Mexican food and Matsuhisa for sushi would be good restaurants to check out. For drinks, try the locally brewed beer at Aspen Brewing Co, and if you have a membership or could get an invite for Caribou Club, then your night is scheduled. If you'd like to try something that the locals flock to, head on over to Jimmy's, it's been a staple for drinks for 20 years now. The Nest in Viceroy Hotel offers a poolside bar and is great for al fresco dining.

Whether you're a lover of outdoor activities or prefer to have relaxing breaks indoor in between, Aspen has something for you. No wonder, people who have opted to call Aspen home always say “I came to Aspen for the winter, but stayed for the summer.”
