Christmas Day is meant to be a day of spending quality time with your family and friend while you indulge in food and drinks - lots of it!

If you want to avoid the stress of preparing and cooking (especially on a hot summer's day) then check out these Christmas Day dining events in Melbourne.

Each one has something different to offer you and your loved ones, however, they all have one thing in common...you won't need to break out your carving knife.

1. Christmas Season Dining at the Stamford Plaza Melbourne Hotel

Located at the "Paris end" of Little Collins Street, is the popular Stamford Plaza Melbourne Hotel, a five-star luxury hotel.

As Christmas approaches, Stamford has released an array of festive celebrations including a pre-Christmas buffet lunch, an elegant high tea and a Christmas lunch and dinner at Harry's Restaurant.

The buffet lunch includes (but isn't limited to) slow-roasted lamb shoulder, thyme roasted chat potatoes and traditional festive pudding.

The festive-themed high tea features yuletide treats and a three-tiered spread of traditional high tea favourites. Oh and don't worry, you can also enjoy sparkling wine!

The Christmas lunch and dinner knows no limits. You can feast on fresh seafood, cold and hot appetisers, traditional roasts and a decadent selection of desserts.

2. Lunch at Hophaus Euro Bar Bistro

Dishing up German food with a twist, this riverside bar is a perfect place to enjoy the Christmas festivities with a remarkable view of the Yarra River.

The Hophaus is hosting a Christmas Day feast which involves a 3 or 4-course sharing menu that's bound to get your mouth watering.

You can enjoy white apple schnapps on arrival and entrees ranging from bretzels, champagne jelly pate, herb crusted lamb skewers and a prawn and avocado cocktail.

For mains you can feast on your choice of cranberry glazed turkey, honey roasted leg ham or green peppercorn slow roasted grass fed beef.

To top off you can choose from a sweet array of desserts and can add a selection of European and local cheeses, crackers, quince and muscatels.

3. Spend Christmas Day dining at the Crown Melbourne

The Crown Melbourne has a delightfully diverse range of restaurants hosting Christmas Day lunch and dinner this year.

If you're a lover of "all you can eat" then head to the Conservatory, Kitchen Workshop Buffet, Mesh or the Aviary.

Sticking with traditions, these eateries will offer mixed seafood, traditional meats and cold cuts, as well as cheeses, decadent desserts and Asian-inspired cuisines.

Also hosting a buffet, is the Aviary. With its uninterrupted views of the city skyline, and a special area for face painting, balloons and colouring, Christmas lunch at the Aviary will be a unique celebration for you and the kids.

If you like to call it after three courses then spend Christmas Day at the popular Merrywell Bar and Dining or the Atlantic where you'll be served only the finest seafood.

If you enjoy a dining marathon of six, seven or even eight course menus then why not indulge at the Mr. Hive Kitchen and Bar, Bistro Guillaume, Nobu or Silks - all offering various cuisines to suit your taste.

4. Christmas Feast at Hotel Windsor

Experience true luxury by dining at the Hotel Windsor on Christmas Day.

A tradition for many families, is the buffet lunch held in the Bourke Room, One Eleven Spring St or the Grand Ballroom.

Children under 12 can look forward to gifts, a visit from Santa and Christmas carollers who'll sing all of your favourite festive tunes.

Hotel Windsor will have a live oyster station and a carvery with your holiday favourites including roast turkey, Sher Wagyu beef, acorn-fed ham and more!

Also on offer are cured meats, a salad bar, cheeses, pavlova and a number of British and French inspired desserts.

So come along to a home away from home because Christmas doesn’t get any more magical than at The Windsor!

5. Christmas Day at Locanda

Located in Melbourne's CBD is the Locanda Restaurant and Public Bar.

Returning for another year is Locanda's exquisite Christmas lunch and dinner buffet. Whether you're a couple, a family or a group of friends, Locanda wants to look after you and your taste buds!

Oh and don't worry about the kids...if the food doesn't hold their attention, they can count on some Christmas Carols to spread the joy and a little gift to keep them entertained.

At Locanda you'll be spoilt for choice with its selection of entrees, salads, mains and delectable desserts.

From an impressive variety of mouth watering, fresh seafoods and salads, traditional mains with a twist and dessert classics, Locanda may be the perfect way to celebrate Christmas this year.
