L’Oréal Group-owned Yves Saint Laurent launched Libre in late last year — a ‘gender-bending’ fragrance for women — and we are still obsessing over this scent.

Designed by IFF Master perfumers Anne Filipo and Carlos Banaïm. The duo represents two sides of the same coin, reversing traditionally masculine and feminine accords to create Libre.

The fragrance pays homage to Yves Saint Laurent’s classic ‘fougère’ style, which saw the designer famously remake the smoking tuxedo for women. Filipo is based in Paris, and honed her nose at the ISIPCA School of Perfumery in Versailles. Banaïm is based in New York and is a nine-time Fragrance Foundation Award winner. He also received the Perfumer of the Year Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014.

The is the perfect scent for winter. The scent is enveloped with top notes of floral lavender, a blend between the burning sensuality of orange blossom and a feminine twist complemented by a daring note of musk accord.

The bottle is iconic, embossed with an oversized YSL gold logo –which hangs from the bottle like a crowned jewel. Gold chains and an asymmetric black lacquered cap adorn the bottle, making it the perfect accessory for any dresser or bedside table.

This new eau de parum represents the freedom to experience everything to excess. The perfume of a strong, bold and free woman experiencing her freedom at its most empowered extreme.

There is a strength to YSL perfumes – a boldness that perfectly replicates the stylish challenge of the house’s historical garments. To bear the YSL name is to be androgynous, empowered, chic and innovative, but most of all it is to be free – free from convention, expectation and constraint. Speaking of freedom, Libre is the latest addition to the house of YSL, and it feels like a homage to the classic spirit of the brand.
