Marenica Energy (MEY) has begun an extensive airborne electromagnetic (EM) survey over its tenements in Namibia.

This area hosts the Koppies and Hirabeb uranium discoveries as well as the recently discovered palaeochannel system at Namibia IV.

The survey began on April 7 and will aim to identify the outline and depth of palaeochannels and the data will be used to plan upcoming drilling programs.

Both the survey and analysis of the results is expected to take three months to complete.

To date, exploration across these tenements has primarily been ground-based geophysics and horizontal loop electromagnetic (HLEM) surveys.

This work successfully identified an extensive palaeochannel system which hosts uranium mineralisation.

“The commencement of the airborne electromagnetic geophysical survey marks an acceleration of our exploration efforts in Namibia. The EM survey covers an area of 1500 square kilometres over our tenements in the greater Namib Area,” Managing Director Murray Hill said.

“It is intended that airborne EM will largely replace the ongoing use of HLEM, although, in select areas we may still use HLEM. The EM survey will include Hirabeb where we have identified a palaeochannel longer than the width of the English Channel,” he added.

Marenica is up 3.57 per cent on the market and shares are trading at 14.5 cents at 2:06 pm AEST.
