MinRex Resources (MRR) has identified new and larger pegmatites hosting visible spodumene and lepidolite over the Tambourah North lithium project in the East Pilbara.
Tambourah is located approximately 200 kilometres south-southeast of Port Hedland and 80 kilometres southwest of Marble Bar within the Pilbara Mineral Field, with access via the Great Northern Highway.
The recent geological mapping programme identified a series of stacked pegmatites in the central-northern area of E45/4953 where spodumene-rich pegmatites are completely hosted within the Apex Basalt, which is part of the greenstone belt.
Further, geological mapping has identified a stacked series of lepidolite-albite-muscovite rich pegmatites in the southern area of E45/4953 on the contact zone between the Petroglyph Gneiss and Apex Basalt.
These pegmatites follow the same orientation of the granite-greenstone for approximately 830 metres in length with individual pegmatites ranging from 40 to 250 metres in length.
Some of the pegmatites range from 0.5 to 15 metres in width with some lepidolite pegmatite veins cross cutting the main pegmatites.
Managing Director George Karageorge said the extensive spodumene-lepidolite stacked sheeted pegmatites are “the hallmarks of a potential Pilgangoora lithium deposit”.
He also said that the company is working on its first reverse circulation (RC) drilling program to test the extensive stacked pegmatites after receiving approval to drill from the WA Department of Mines, Industry, Resources and Safety.
The first pass RC drill programme will target a 300-metre by 310-metre area within the central-northern area of Tambourah North which will test the spodumene rich stacked pegmatites in the along strike and at depth.
The second drill target zone will concentrate drilling over an area extending for 870 metres long by 170 metres wide in the southern target area of Tambourah North to test the newly identified lepidolite rich stacked pegmatites along strike and depth.
MRR shares were up 10.9 per cent in the green at market close, ending the day off at 61 cents.
