MinRex Resources (MRR) has reported “outstanding” assay results from rock chip sampling undertaken at its Tambourah North lithium project in Western Australia’s East Pilbara region.

The company said it identified large pegmatites hosting visible spodumene and lepidolite mineralisation in the recent reconnaissance field program.

Rock chip values peaked at 2.56 per cent lithium oxide.

Assay results received validated lithium mineralisation reported by previous project owners through the observation of spodumene and lepidolite mineralisation, according to MinRex.

The company said Tambourah North Project hosts large, stacked pegmatites over 1.5 kilometres in length by 150 metres in width.

Managing Director George Karageorge said the “high-grade lithium-tantalum-caesium-rubidium rock chip assay results indicates enrichment of a fertile pegmatite field”.

“These rich spodumene stacked pegmatites have extensive width, strike and zonation, which have all the hallmarks of a potential Pilgangoora lithium deposit,” he said.

“MinRex is currently working on the first reverse circulation drill program to test the extensive stacked pegmatites over its project areas with a view of signing a drilling contractor to undertake drilling over the projects imminently.”

Spodumene rich pegmatites were identified in the northern portion of the Tambourah North tenement within the Apex Basalt greenstone belt.

MinRex has applied to the Department of Mines, Industry, Regulation and Safety for a program of work relating to the proposed drilling at Tambourah North, which it hopes to kick off in Q2 2022.

The company has also appointed Ian Shackleton as its Exploration Manager.

Mr Shackleton has extensive experience in battery metals exploration in the East Pilbara, including recently with Global Lithium Resources (GL1).

MRR shares were down 1.27 per cent to 7.8 cents at 1:06 pm AEST.
