Norwest Energy (NWE) has released an update regarding the Lockyer Deep-1 gas discovery well in the Perth Basin.

The well is located within exploration permit EP368 which is a joint venture between Norwest, who owns a 20 per cent stake, and Energy Resources who owns 80 per cent and is the operator.

At the end of last month, the energy stock announced it had faced an issue when the 5-1/2 inch production casing was being run from surface. Due to a suspected wiper plug held up in the casing hanger, the cement wasn’t displaced into the annulus.

This led to the cement remaining in the casing which has had to be milled out so the company can access the well and re-cement the production casing for future completion and testing.

Unfortunately, the unexpected issues meant additional time, equipment and costs were required. However, Norwest said it was adequately funded to complete the remedial works, conduct the production test, and complete the planned 3D and 2D seismic programs that will inform future appraisal and exploration programs.

Norwest has confirmed milling operations have successfully removed the cement from within the casing from a depth of about 2420 metres to just above the casing float collar at 4220 metres.

The hole is currently being conditioned before running a wireline cement bond log to determine the extent and integrity of the cement in the annulus. A cement bond log helps to determine the top of the cement column and estimates the quality of the cement bond between the casing and the formation.

The results will dictate the forward program as the well progresses towards completion.

Company shares were 3.70 per cent and were trading at 2.8 cents at 3:27 pm AEDT.
