Objective Corporation (OCL) has been awarded a five-year contract to implement a firearms registry for the New Zealand police.

Following a multi-phase tender process, Objective has gained a roughly NZ$13 million (A$11.8 million) contract for the implementation of an arms information system.

Police will use Objective RegWorks to manage the end-to-end regulation of registration and licensing for firearms, as part of a program that includes the establishment of a new arms information system. This is designed to support the effective regulation of NZ’s licensed firearms community of around 250,000 licence holders.

The system is a secure digital platform that will manage information related to firearms licensing, plus any activities associated with the possession and use of firearms.

The new system will ultimately give police a clear picture of all firearms transactions in New Zealand and, over time, all the legally owned firearms in New Zealand.

“The harrowing events of 2019 suddenly brought in to focus the need for reform and for an Arms Information System that will assist to underpin continuing freedoms that the people of Aotearoa have enjoyed for generations,” Objective’s Global Vice President of RegTech Ben Hobby said.

“We are extremely proud to be partnered with New Zealand Police to make this vision a reality.”

While the specific customer details have not been released to the public, Objective and the New Zealand police force have established a delivery partnership and are actively working on developing delivery phases.

Objective Corporation was up 2.56 per cent, trading at $15.51 per share at 3:00 pm AEST.
