PointsBet (PBH) has appointed professional basketball player Shaquille O’Neal as its Australian brand ambassador.

Shaquille O’Neal is considered one of the greatest basketball players of all time, having played for 19 years across the National Basketball Association (NBA).

He has won three all-star MVP awards, three finals MVP awards, four championships and two Olympic gold medals.

“The rise of responsible sports betting is really exciting, and I am so excited to join forces with PointsBet, the best-in-class partner in Australia when it comes to online sportsbooks,” Shaquille O’Neal said.

Under this agreement, Shaquille will headline PointsBet’s new 2021 Australian brand campaign which will be deployed across social media, television, mobile and digital.

“Shaq is an iconic figure in the worlds of sports and entertainment and was our clear number one pick to represent the PointsBet brand in Australia,” Chief Marketing Officer and Co-Founder Andrew Fahey commented.

“U.S. sports, particularly professional basketball, continue to be the fastest-growing betting sport in Australia, and we are very excited to align with such a transcendent athlete,” he said.

“Further, we are delighted that Mr O’Neal has agreed to take part of his consideration in the form of equity in PointsBet, which underscored the alignment and trust across our teams and our shared belief in the opportunities ahead for PointsBet,” he added.

PointsBet is up 2.75 per cent on the market and shares are trading at $16.46 at 10:37 am AEDT.
