R3D Resources (R3D) has appointed Mathew Hancock as the Plant Manager of the Tartana Copper Sulphate Plant.

The Tartana Plant lies roughly 150 kilometres west of Cairns in North Queensland and is situated within the prospective Chillagoe Formation belt.

It is made up of four granted mining leases that produced high-quality copper sulphate for roughly 10 years.

It was placed on care and maintenance in 2014 and has remained that way since.

Mr Hancock is a mineral processing professional, having previously worked at Newmont’s Tanami Operations from 2014 to 2018.

At Newmont, he was Processing Coordinator before moving to Dover Castle Minerals to become Assets and Operations Manager.

Prior to joining Newmont, Mr Hancock had roles at JKO Mining and the Birla Mt Gordon Copper Mine.

In his role as Plant Manager, Mr Hancock will be responsible for coordinating and managing the refurbishment of the heap leach crystallisation plant at Tartana.

Additionally, he will identify the optimum products for the market, source cost estimates for the refurbishment and meet with marketing groups to assess offtake opportunities.

Managing Director Steve Bartrop commented on Mr Hancock’s appointment.

“Mat has a demonstratable ability to move the project forward given a high level of initiative and self-motivation,” Mr Bartrop said.

“While the copper sulphate project is separate to the recent drilling results indicating significant sulphide intersected at depth, the copper sulphate project nevertheless is important for the company offering potential future cash flow.”

Shares in R3D Resources remained flat today, closing at 15.5 cents.
