Australian internet of things (IoT) solution provider Sensera (SE1) has joined forces with Triton Systems to develop asset tracking solutions for the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).

The pair will link up to integrate Sensera’s location-aware IoT building blocks with Triton’s artificial intelligence technology for a wide range of asset tracking for the DoD.

“The signing of this agreement with Triton Systems represents a strong pathway for Sensera to leverage our successful wireless Location-Aware IoT sensors and software platform to explore some significant new application and market opportunities within the U.S. Department of Defense.”

Sensera’s General Manager of Internet of Things, Brad Sherrard.

The two companies have signed an agreement which leverages Triton’s experience as a solutions provider and integrator to the DoD and Sensera’s Swarm technology.

Its aim is to create a reliable end-to-end solution for monitoring and tracking the location and operational-readiness of military and security assets across DoD sites all around the world.

What is this internet of things thing?

Essentially, the internet of things refers to the growing connectivity of devices around our homes and businesses. Where internet access was once reserved for computers, growing “smart home” technology means more and more electronic devices are connecting to the internet — and subsequently each other.

Sensera designs and manufactures hardware and software across the vertical technology spectrum from MicroElectroMechanical Systems and sensors to wireless networked systems and software that when combined, drive an entire IoT platform solution.

The project

The initial DoD project will prove the performance of Sensera’s Real-Time Location System (RTLS) combined with Triton’s sensor suite and Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools within a military supply depot environment.

Sensera said it will fill an important performance gap in accuracy, range and scalability for identifying and tracking the tens of millions of mobile and portable assets that military depots use.

The company said RTLS enables precise real-time positioning and concurrent wireless data communication for virtually any IoT application needing real-time, precision location.

Triton Systems Chief Operating Officer, David Model, said the company was excited to bring Sensera’s cutting edge location awareness technology to its DoD customer base.

“The defence community has been looking for the capability to quickly and precisely track thousands of assets in GPS-challenged environments,” David commented.

“We believe the Swarm solution, combined with Triton’s AI platform, will allow Triton and Sensera to closely work with our DoD end-users to facilitate the qualification and adoption of a unique IoT solution for military platforms,” he said.

The company’s share price received a boost following the news, up more than 20 per cent at market closed and trading for 3.5 cents
