Strike Resources’ (SRK) maiden iron ore shipment has departed Peru onboard the MV Federal Nakagawa.

The MV Federal Nakagawa is carrying 35,000 tonnes of Apurimac Premium Lump direct shipping iron ore (DSO) from Strike’s Apurimac Iron Ore Project.

The Apurimac Project lies in the Southern Highlands of Peru and covers a total area of 7500 hectares.

It currently has a JORC 2012 resource of 269.4 million tonnes consisting of an indicated mineral resource of 57.8 per cent iron and an inferred mineral resource of 56.7 per cent iron.

The DSO is on route to China with an expected voyage time of roughly 32 days.

Strike has already received US$4.5 million (A$6.2 million) in pre-payments from this shipment with the remaining balance to be received prior to the ship’s arrival in China.

Managing Director William Johnson said the first shipment of iron ore from Peru was a major milestone for the company.

“Strike’s high-grad Apurimac Iron Ore Project in Peru is recognised as one of the highest grade, large scale magnetite projects in the world with the potential to support the establishment of a significant iron ore operation,” he said.

“This first shipment of this high-grade Apurimac Premium Lump DSO is expected to generate considerable market interest, including from potential customers in the region as well as in China.”

Shares in Strike were trading in the grey at 21.5 cents at 2:07 pm AEST.
