Talga Group (TLG) has secured an environmental permit for its Nunasvaara South natural graphite mine in northern Sweden.

The environmental permit was issued by the Swedish Land and Environment Court on April 5 and also included a Natura 2000 permit.

The tick of approval was granted in line with the company’s detailed feasibility study and permit application.

“This key approval is a significant achievement, and a major step in Talga establishing its Swedish natural graphite anode production,” TLG Managing Director Mark Thompson said.

“The approval is the culmination of extensive technical, environmental and social studies over many years and has followed a highly rigorous permitting process.”

The Nunasvaara South natural graphite mine forms part of the company’s Vittangi anode project.

The mine is designed to supply power to the company’s planned 19,500 tonne per annum (tpa) refinery, which is progressing through its own permitting process.

If all goes to plan, Talga aims to start early works at its battery anode refinery in the second half of 2023.

TLG shares were up 5.56 per cent and trading at $1.71 at 10:54 am AEST.
