WestStar Industrial’s (WSI) subsidiary SIMPEC has been awarded a $2.1 million contract from Fortescue Metals (FMG).

Under the contract, SIMPEC will replace two of FMG’s Hopper 5 Jaw Crushers at the Cloudbreak mine in Western Australia.

SIMPEC will remove all the structural and mechanical items required to access the jaw crushers then replace them.

The company will also undertake maintenance and modification of the existing chutes, screens and hoppers (the device in which materials are put in for crushing).

“It has been a long-term goal of SIMPEC to work directly for Fortescue and to break into the field of sustaining capital works,” SIMPEC Managing Director Mark Dimasi commented.

“By building our sustaining capital portfolio, SIMPEC aims to achieve a more stable cashflow as well as provide continuity for our workforce,” he said.

“This is a very proud moment for the team and we look forward to the successful completion of this project and what we hope will be a long-term relationship with Fortescue,” he added.

WestStar and SIMPEC will continue to update the market as work progresses.

This is the second contract to be awarded in a matter of days with SIMPEC receiving a $7 million contract from Central Systems.

Under the contract, SIMPEC will work with Central Systems to supply and install the electrical and communication works for FMG’s Solomon Hub facilities in WA.

WestStar is up 5.26 per cent on the market and shares are trading at 2 cents at 1:34 pm AEDT.
