American West Metals (AW1) has expanded the high-grade copper zone at the Storm Project in Canada.

The company announced further “outstanding” visual results for diamond drill holes completed at the project on Somerset Island, Nunavut.

The latest drill holes intersected wide intervals of visual copper mineralisation, revealing 43.5 metres of mineralisation including 15.5 metres of breccia and massive copper sulphides over multiple intervals.

Additional intersections include 30 metres of mineralisation including 13 metres of breccia and massive copper sulphides over multiple intervals.

The copper mineralisation within the zone remains open along strike and at depth, and is associated with a one-kilometre-long geochemical anomaly.

Managing Director Dave O’Neill said this is the best outcome the company could have hoped for and shows AW1 is well on its way to defining a significant volume of copper here.

“The drilling has emphasised the strong continuity and expansion potential of the 2750N Zone where we are aiming to define a shallow copper resource that can support a low cost, low-footprint direct shipping ore (DSO) mining operation,” he said.

“The success at the 2750N Zone bodes well for the potential of several other near-surface high-grade zones already identified by previous drilling.”

Additional near surface high-grade zones are yet to be tested, where previous historical drilling intersected shallow, high-grade copper.

American West Metals was up 7.41 per cent, trading at 14.5 cents at 12:13 pm AEST.
