American West Metals (AW1) has struck thick intervals of visual copper sulphides in its fourth diamond drillhole at the Storm project in Canada.

The company’s ongoing drilling program has confirmed a sediment-hosted copper system in an unexplored section of the project.

In one of the holes, AW1 intersected a thick 18.5-metre zone of visible copper sulphide between 339 and 357.5 metres downhole, aligning with previous sediment-hosted copper discoveries from all diamond drill holes this season.

The strike of the Storm Copper project has been extended by an additional two kilometres west of drillhole ST23-03.

The drillhole’s objective was to explore a significant gravity anomaly south of the Southern Graben Fault and the fault itself, affirming the efficacy of gravity in identifying copper sulphide mineralisation.

“This exceptional strike rate across a very broad area is further evidence of a truly regional scale copper system,” AW1 Managing Director Dave O’Neill said.

“The drill hole was designed to test a dense gravity feature in an untested area between the high-grade, near-surface 3500N zone, and the other high-grade copper zones over 3 kilometres to the east.”

An untested 880-metre by 470-metre Fixed Loop Electromagnetic (FLEM) conductor, positioned just south of drill hole ST23-04, signifies the additional potential for significant copper mineralisation in the region.

Drilling will continue at AW1’s Storm project to fully explore the copper system’s potential. Assay results are anticipated within the next two weeks.

AW1 shares were down 14.3 per cent, trading at 30 cents at 1:17 pm AEST.
