Norwest Energy (NWE) has suspended operations at the Lockyer Deep-1 well, located within the Perth basin, due to COVID-19 border restrictions.

Situated within exploration permit EP368, the well is held in joint venture between Norwest with 20 per cent, and operator Energy Resources which is a division of fellow ASX-lister Mineral Resources (MIN).

The conventional gas exploration well has now reached the 13-3/8-inch surface casing point at 1205 metres, after being spudded earlier this week.

While the casing has been run and cemented, and the wellhead has been installed, further work has been put on hold as a result of the recently announced border restrictions between WA and other states.

NWE said the hiatus will provide sufficient time for drilling contractor Ensign’s equipment and personnel to be readied for continued operations to completion of the well.

The forward plan is to install the blowout preventer before drilling ahead with the 12-1/4 inch bit through the intermediate section.

All up, the well is estimated to take 35 days to reach the total depth of 4185 metres.

The joint venture partners don’t expect the suspension of operations to materially affect the cost or duration of the drilling program.

Shares last traded grey at 1 cent.
