A powerhouse within the energy industry, Brett Tredinnick is the CEO of Drilling Operations at AJ Lucas Group Limited. With a strong background in the fields of manufacturing and mining, as well as plenty of experience within business management, Tredinnick is an inspiration to many in the energy sector.

Having graduated with an MBA from The University of Queensland, Tredennick worked with BHP and Rio Tinto Coal for over ten years. Employed in a variety of operational and project management roles, he gained experience in a range of different capacities. When Tredennick joined Lucas in the summer of 2000, his experience within the oil, gas and coal industry, as well as his skill set within business management and corporate financing, served him well in his new role.

With over a decade of corporate training and operational experience under his belt, Tredinnick was knowledgeable and experienced within every aspect of business management when he joined Lucas Drilling.

Originally founded in 1950 as a specialised service provider within mining and infrastructure, AJ Lucas Group currently focuses on drilling services for the Eastern seaboard coal mining industry. The Sydney-based company is one of the world’s leading providers of exploration, production and drilling services for major international coal miners. AJ Lucas Group employs over 350 dedicated staffers in several divisions, and the company is known for its innovative solutions as well as their well-executed project management.

Tredinnick has been with Lucas Drilling since the year 2000 when he joined the new division under parent company AJ Lucas Group Limited. Since then, he has helped facilitate tremendous growth within the company. After being appointed General Manager of Drilling in 2007, Tredennick went on to be promoted to Chief Operational Officer in 2011. His professional journey has since led to him being appointed Chief Executive Officer of Lucas Drilling and Executive Director of AJ Lucas. This year sees the 20th anniversary of Lucas Drilling.

In 2020, the dedicated teams at Lucas will be able to celebrate two decades of consistent, high-quality services delivered within the mining industry. After a predictably rocky patch, the company quickly found its groove and has since gone from strength to strength within its niche. During his time with Lucas Drilling, Tredinnick has had a huge influence on the company’s positive growth over the last 20 years.

Responsible for some of Lucas Group’s biggest degasification projects and business growth drives, Tredinnick has seen the company expand quickly, with big acquisitions such as Mitchell Drilling and Capricorn Western Drilling over a period of just a few years. As Tredinnick was made Chief Operating Officer of the company and given managerial responsibilities, he facilitated positive changes in both culture and management systems. His work over the past two decades with Lucas Group has always been focused on securing the company’s position as the leading provider of drilling services.

In 2019, AJ Lucas Group made waves within the oil, gas and coal sector for securing a lucrative contract with Kestrel Coal Party Limited. The deal entailed providing a hot of degasification and exploration drilling services and is an extension of the existing long working relationship between Kestrel and Lucas.

The new contract will last for three years and is estimated to generate revenues of around $70 million. In addition to landing this clear growth opportunity for the Lucas Drilling division, the company also secured big contracts with five other huge coal mining companies last year. It’s clear that AJ Lucas Group’s strong position as a leader in the sector is not abating, and their growth shows no signs of slowing down following several years of consistently strong financial results.

However, the bottom line isn’t the only thing that’s thriving at Lucas. Tredinnick believes in facilitating and maintaining healthy, positive company culture. His belief is that a workplace must be safe and supportive, with a focus on communication and collaboration. At Lucas Drilling, employees are valued for their individual skills and input, and their personal and professional growth is encouraged.

It’s clear that Tredinnick and Lucas Group are en route towards growing the company’s profile even more and solidifying its position as a major provider in the field of drilling. With strong technical expertise and experience, practical knowledge, careful and effective application as well as a loyal and dedicated workforce, Lucas Group are able to consistently provide effective and innovative solutions to their customers.
