Chalice Mining (CHN) has received an access approval to explore new areas at its Julimar Nickel-Copper-Platinum Group Element (PGE) Project in WA.

The approval was given by the Minister for Environment and allows Chalice to conduct ‘non-ground disturbing’ activities on the granted exploration licence E70/5119, within the Julimar State Forest. Importantly, this approval will see the first-ever nickel-copper-PGE exploration activities within the State Forest.

To ensure the environment isn’t negatively impacted, exploration will be governed by the Stage 1 Conservation Management Plan (CMP).

“This access approval has been eagerly anticipated and is highly significant, as it allows us to finally start to understand the true scale of the Julimar discovery,” Managing Director Alex Dorsch said.

“We are pleased to be working together with the various state government departments and agencies to facilitate the first ever ground-based Ni-Cu-PGE exploration programs in the State Forest,” he added.

In September last year, Chalice completed an airborne electromagnetic (AEM) survey – the first ever in the area. Pleasingly, the survey identified large-scale electromagnetic (EM) anomalies (Hartog, Baudin and Jansz) that span 20 kilometres of strike. They’re located directly along strike from Chalice’s world-class Gonneville discovery.

The company will conduct soil geochemical sampling and moving loop EM (MLEM) and ground gravity surveys over the Hartog, Baudin and Jansz anomalies. Chalice hopes this work will define drilling targets to ultimately determine if Julimar is a new multi-discovery mineral district.

Exploration at the Julimar State Forest will begin in the next few weeks and are expected to be completed in the first quarter.

Chalice is up a slight 2.56 per cent and shares are trading at an even $4 at 10:10 am AEDT.
