ClearVue Technologies (CPV) has opened the door to exploring new opportunities in “opposite” parts of the world – Asia and the US – following recent successes in global market engagement for its world-leading products.

The Perth-based company has been making waves in the industry with its innovative building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) products, which generate “green” electricity from the sun by integrating solar cells into glass windows, skylights and building facades.

Recently, ClearVue won a tender to carry out a solar glass study for Hong Kong’s Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD), which further solidifies its growing status as a player in the global solar photovoltaic glass market.

Additionally, the company signed a letter of intent (LOI) with AZ Group in Cambodia, an indication of the growing demand for ClearVue’s products in the Asia-Pacific region.

According to India-based Maximize Market Research (MMR), the global solar photovoltaic glass market is expected to reach more than $124 billion by 2029, growing at a CAGR of 30.72 per cent during 2021-29. Photovoltaic windows will make up a major portion of this market, meaning ClearVue is perfectly poised to capitalise on the growing demand in two of the largest markets going around.

The company is committed to making a positive impact on the environment and paving the way for a new way to construct buildings in major global cities.

ClearVue grows presence in Asia with LOI and M&V study

In February 2022, ClearVue signed an LOI with highly diversified conglomerate AZ Group and its subsidiary My Window in Cambodia.

The LOI opens the door for the company to explore solar glazing installation opportunities in Southeast Asia.

AZ Group is considered a leader in construction, construction products and property development in the region.

The LOI enables discussions involving a distribution or supply and purchase agreement (SPA) with ClearVue for its initial product supply to AZ Group using ClearVue’s existing OEM suppliers to explore possible initial early projects in Cambodia, Laos or nearby markets.

If AZ secures an initial project in Cambodia or nearby markets during 2023, ClearVue has pledged to negotiate a joint venture (JV) agreement or an exclusive manufacturing and distribution agreement (MFDA) for the territories of Cambodia and Laos.

ClearVue was also recently engaged by the government of Hong Kong to help in its efforts towards achieving decarbonisation goals on the road to net zero emissions.

The company was selected for a fully paid-for measurement and verification (M&V) study to assess the optical properties, energy harvesting and energy efficiency effectiveness of ClearVue’s photovoltaic glazing, being compared to existing installed conventional glazing.

The study will be used to weigh up the possibility of using CPV’s glazing technology and products for future Hong Kong government building projects.

ClearVue Executive Chairman Victor Rosenberg said the selection of the company’s products was a testament to its global recognition as an energy-efficient and commercially viable photovoltaic glazing solution.

Opportunity at large – Cambodia’s commitment to low-carbon construction

The Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) has previously expressed its commitment towards tackling climate change and endorsing a climate-resilient, low-carbon mode of development.

Cambodia is considered to be one of the most climate-vulnerable nations in the world. It’s constantly affected by extreme temperatures, uneven rainfall, and flooding or droughts, impacting the nation’s economic and social development.

While the nation is not a huge emitter of greenhouse gasses, it is trying to reduce emissions and focus on building resistance and adaptation to climate change.

The Cambodian government’s long-term strategy for carbon neutrality has seen it commit to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 42 per cent by 2030.

Prior to COVID-19, Cambodia was considered one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, leading to a rapid rise in the demand for energy. This led to governments making the decision to look beyond fossil fuels to renewable solutions such as solar.

Upon ClearVue’s visit to Cambodia in November 2022, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) meetings were also taking place in the country, with world leaders including US President Joe Biden and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese present.

The ASEAN, made up of 10 member states, is a regional organisation that brings together disparate neighbours to address economic and security issues.

The meeting, chaired by Cambodia in November, saw world leaders exchange views on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the pressure to address climate change.

ClearVue has the opportunity to explore solar glazing installation opportunities in Southeast Asia as nations push towards focusing on decarbonisation efforts towards a more sustainable future.

ClearVue tackles North American market

ClearVue has been focussing on its efforts to capture the US market over the last 12 months with the appointment of key licensees AIT Group in Florida and Graboyes in Pennsylvania, alongside a trial with the US Airforce and Nodis in Florida.

Key ClearVue personnel have this month convened in the US for a tour of current North American activities and for meetings on new initiatives.

North America CEO Basil Karampelas has been joined by ClearVue Executive Chairman Victor Rosenberg and ClearVue Global Business Development Director Clifton Smyth to explore these various US market engagement opportunities.

The company recently secured a two-year partnership in the form of a manufacturing and distribution agreement with Florida-based Advanced Impact Technologies Group (AIT Group).

Advanced Impact Technologies has been operating for more than 40 years with branches in Massachusetts and Florida.

The company also secured a five-year manufacturing and distribution agreement with Graboyes in Pennsylvania.

ClearVue announced its intentions to meet with Nodis and AIT Group to look at its US Air Force evaluation progress. The parties are looking at how significant energy savings, energy generation and sustainability impacts can be achieved by combining its PV window technology with Nodis’ electronically-controlled tinting solution.

Finally, ClearVue continues to carry out further discussions with its development partner D2 Solar in California to configure the advancement of its second and third-generation technologies.

North America is alongside Asia Pacific as a leading region making up the global solar photovoltaic glass market.

It’s not just developing countries investing in “green” energy, with more advanced economies such as the US and Canada constantly looking to expand their solar energy capacity.

The Energy Information Administration (EIA) revealed solar energy amounts to 2.8 per cent of the total electricity generation in the US and the increasing electricity consumption in North America is fuelling the growth of the solar photovoltaic glass market.

With new legislation also restricting the use of fossil fuels, renewable energy solutions such as CPV’s are becoming increasingly popular in today’s society.
