SungEel HiTech has agreed to include EcoGraf’s (EGR) battery recycling process in its proposed recycling plants in Europe and South Korea.

SungEel has been evaluating EcoGraf’s propriety purification process for the recovery and re-use of battery carbon anode material from production scrap as well as ‘black mass’ from lithium-ion battery material produced at its South Korean plant.

Following testing, SungEel has agreed to collaborate with EcoGraf and include the chemical anode recycling process in its proposed recycling plants in South Korea and Europe to complement its own hydrometallurgical cathode recycling process.

SungEel’s hydrometallurgical plant produces 6000 tonnes of lithium-ion battery materials per year, with plans to move to 18,000 tonnes per annum. At present, cathode metals are recovered at the plant, but the carbon anode material is not.

By recycling anode material, the SungEel will lower carbon emissions and reduce the battery cost per unit, by closing the battery recycling loop.

The proposed plant will use the existing EcoGraf purification flowsheet and be tailored to provide sufficient material for commercial qualification for both the lithium-ion battery and industrial markets.

SungEel will provide black mass for the product qualification phase, and both companies will commit to co-marketing and co-promotion.
