GWR Group (GWR) has pushed back its first C4 iron ore shipment on Cargo Ship PANAFRICAN following a weather event at the Port of Geraldton.

GWR said loading has been progressing well up until now, but will be temporarily paused as ships temporarily evacuate the port and maintenance is undertaken.

GWR and Alliance Partner Pilbara Resource Group (PRG) say the first shipment from of ore from the C4 deposit is now expected to depart on or before February 8, 2021.

The deposit has a mineral resource estimate of 21.6 million tonnes at 60.7 per cent iron and is situated within the Wiluna West Iron Ore Project.

There are currently 30,000 tonnes of premium high-grade lump currently loaded on board the vessel PANAFRICAN according to GWR with the remaining approximate 25,000 tonnes of ore set to be loaded on February 6, 2021.

The miner says it has been given priority to dock at Berth 5 to continue to load the
remaining ore.

In the interim, iron ore stockpiling is expected to continue at Site 88 Storage Facility at the Port of Geraldton, with C4 Stage one mining activities progressing on site.

GWR Chariman Gary Lyons remained positive in his outlook.

“The loading of premium high grade lump ore onto our cargo ship has progressed well and will resume on the 6th day of this month,” he assured.

“Due to Port surge and maintenance at the Port of Geraldton, our vessel is anchored just out of port and has priority to dock at Berth 5 once maintenance has been conducted and will then load the remaining roughly 25,000 tonnes of ore,” he explained.

“We now expect the first historic shipment of Iron Ore to our offtake partner to leave the Port of Geraldton on or before February 8, 2021,” he concluded.

GWR Group shares are off slightly following the news, trading 3.13 per cent lower at 31 cents each at 1:11 pm AEDT.
