- Hawkstone Mining (HWK) has confirmed high-grade mineralisation at the Lone Pine Gold Project in Idaho, U.S.
- The gold explorer is conducting drilling, mapping and trenching at the project, which has so far identified gold mineralisation over a 600-metre strike length
- Latest results account for seven initial diamond holes which have returned grades of up to 17.02, 19.6 and 65.6 grams per tonne gold
- Shallow trenching has also returned positive results, with gold grading up to 9.38 and 20.32 grams per tonne
- Hawkstone will re-drill a few holes which returned low grades, as well as continue reconnaissance work and sampling
- Company shares remain grey in early trade, priced at 1.7 cents each
Hawkstone Mining (HWK) has received results from the first seven diamond holes and two trenches completed at the Lone Pine Gold Project in Idaho, U.S.
Pleasingly, drilling has confirmed high-grade mineralisation and excellent geological continuity of the quartz vein zone.
Exploration to date has identified gold mineralisation at surface over a 600-metre strike length and it remains open at depth, to the northeast and southwest.
Best results from the initial seven holes include 17.02g/t gold over 1.22 metres including 65.6g/t gold over 0.31 metres, 19.6g/t gold over 0.45 metres and 7.06g/t gold over 2.56 metres including 1.37 metres at `13.23g/t gold.
“We are very pleased with the initial results from the early drilling and trenching at the Lone Pine Gold Project, which have demonstrated the presence of high-grade gold mineralisation and excellent geological continuity providing the impetus to. continue with further drilling and additional regional exploration,” Managing Director Paul Lloyd said.
Despite these positive results, the company did experience a set back with four of the seven holes. While hole LPDD02 intersected mineralisation, the recoveries were very poor. Another hole intersected a void believed to be a stope and was abandoned and another two holes resulted in very low core recoveries.
Over the next few weeks, Hawkstone will continue drilling these holes to better understand the geology and grade.
Looking to the program’s trenching results, Trench 20-1 exposed the altered clay-gouge-vein zone averaging 9.38g/t gold over 1.83 metres. The second trench returned 20.32g/t gold over 0.91 metres across the vein zone.
Next up for the U.S.-focused gold explorer is further drilling at Lone Pine, trenching along the mineralised vein structure as well as reconnaissance work and rock sampling at the King Solomon prospect.
Hawkstone shares remain grey in early trade, priced at 1.7 cents each at 10:26 am AEST.
