An inspection committee led by the Thailand Department of Primary Industries and Mines (DPIM) has recommended Kingsgate Consolidated’s (KCN) Chatree gold mine reopens.
The committee, comprising officials from the DPIM and officials with expertise in mine engineering and environmental science, completed the final re-opening inspections of the Thai-based mine under the Mineral Act 2017.
KCN said the committee unanimously recommended that the mine re-open and operate in accordance with all applicable Thai mining laws and regulations.
Additionally, the DPIM Region five — the region responsible for Chatree — endorsed the reopening of the mine, and paperwork from this is pending authorisation by the Pichit DPIM District Office.
Kingsgate expects to receive this authorisation shortly, marking the last step of the approvals process.
The Chatree Mine was placed on care and maintenance at the start of 2017 after the Thai Government announced a halt to all gold mining in the country.
KCN shares were up 10.3 per cent and trading at $1.61 at 2:58 pm AEDT.
