Leaf Resources (LER) has updated the market regarding an incident at its Apple Tree Creek Pine Chemical Plant that occurred on November 12.

Around 9:45 pm on Friday night, an explosion occurred at the plant with five personnel on site at the time.

One contractor was taken to the Bundaberg Hospital with serious facial injuries and burns while an employee was treated for minor injuries.

On the weekend, the contractor was taken to a Brisbane hospital for surgery where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Health and safety officers are now at the plant and are investigating the cause of the incident.

This work will examine whether a lightning strike the occurred at 1:30 pm on Friday was a contributing factor.

Leaf’s immediate concern has been for the wellbeing of its employees and contractors, and the company has offered counselling for those involved.

The plant will not operate until investigations are complete with insurers notified and assessors on the site.

Leaf will remain in a trading halt while investigations continue and further information becomes available.

Shares in Leaf last traded at 7.9 cents on November 12. The company has a $124.8 million market cap.
