Legend Mining (LEG) has commenced a 3000-metre drilling program at the Mawson prospect within the Rockford Project in Western Australia.

The reverse circulation (RC) drilling program is testing the upper nickel-copper sulphide zone between diamond holes RKDD007 and RKDD015, the main gravity high and the eastern aircore nickel-copper geochemical anomaly.

“RC drilling is cheaper and quicker than diamond, yet still provides a platform for downhole EM and allows for diamond tails to chase deeper targets that are identified,” Managing Director Mark Wilson said.

“It is important to note that it will give us new information on the known sulphide mineralisation, the eastern geochemical footprint and the gravity features,” Mark added.

Drilling is expected to take between four and six weeks to complete.

Additionally, Legend has released further significant assay results from air core drilling at Mawson.

These include 25 metres at 0.35 per cent nickel, 0.17 per cent copper, 0.04 per cent cobalt from 64 metres to end of hole, and 15 metres at 0.29 per cent nickel, 0.12 per cent copper, 0.02 per cent cobalt from 60 metres to end of hole.

The new results and previously released aircore results continue to define the large northeast-southwest trending geochemical anomaly east of the main Mawson sulphide mineralisation.

Pleasingly, anomalous nickel-copper values were returned from 12 of the 51 drill holes and are associated with olivine-bearing ultramafic and mafic host rocks.

Company shares remain flat and are trading for 14 cents each at 11:21 am AEST.
