Lithium Universe (LU7) has added to its lithium “dream team” by appointing technical expert Dr Jingyuan Liu as Non-Executive Director.

Dr Jingyuan previously served as the General Manager of Development and Technologies at Galaxy Resources, the flagship lithium company of LU7 Chairman Iggy Tan.

With more than 30 years’ experience in project management and processing equipment design across various industries, including chemicals, non-ferrous metals, iron and steel, as well as energy, in Australia and worldwide, he brings a wealth of knowledge to the board.

Following his tenure at Galaxy, Dr Jingyuan served as a special adviser to various lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide projects worldwide, including the lithium hydroxide plant operated by Tianqi Lithium in Kwinana, Western Australia.

Currently, Dr Jingyuan holds the position of Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Mr Tan’s battery company, Altech Batteries (ATC), where he is involved in the development of high-capacity silicon anode lithium-ion batteries and sodium chloride solid-state batteries.

In his new role, Dr Jingyuan is tasked with advancing the company’s Quebec Lithium Processing Hub (QLPH) strategy in James Bay, Canada. This strategy includes establishing a standalone concentrator to process one million metric tonnes of lithium per annum.

The facility will be a critical source for a lithium carbonate refinery producing 16,000 tonnes of battery-grade lithium carbonate annually, supporting the company’s mission to become the preferred downstream solution for small to mid-sized lithium mining operations in Canada.

Mr Tan explained LU7’s strategic focus on lithium carbonatite over lithium hydroxide, citing the increased demand for carbonation, which is used in lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries for the electric vehicle (EV) industry.

“Dr Liu is well known in the lithium industry as the “go to expert” in lithium carbonate or lithium hydroxide technology,” he said.

“With his expertise in operating the Jiangsu lithium carbonate plant and being my right-hand man during our time at Galaxy, LU7 is fortunate to have such a critical lithium professional on the board.”

LU7 shares last traded at 5.1 cents.
