Mandrake Resources (MAN) has identified two highly prospective nickel-rich ultramafic bodies at its Jimperding Project in Western Australia.
The company has now completed detailed geological mapping and sampling across the entire 142 kilometres squared project in the Jimperding Metamorphic Belt. A total of 174 rock and soil were screened, with 22 submitted to the laboratory for analysis.
Two previously untouched, stand-out prospects, Tolarno North and Tolarno South, were immediately identified, with further analysis of the results of the mapping and sampling program ongoing.
Field inspection at Tolarno North revealed a roughly 900-metre by 200-metre-wide soil-covered zone with intermittent outcropping, sub cropping and float ultramafic rock, with assays of 0.31 per cent nickel, 503 parts per million copper and 20 parts per billion (PPB) lead.
While the full extent of the ultramafic intrusion is unclear, the company says the area indicates the potential prospectivity for platinum group element-nickel-copper mineralisation.
Further work is still required at the project, including more mapping and sampling, before a potential ground electromagnetic and air core program will begin.
The company also believes Tolarno South hosts ultramafic and amphibolite floats. However no source of the electromagnetic anomalies have been found, and no outcrop located.
One sample of ultramafic float returned 0.12 per cent nickel and 10 ppb platinum. The company says the prospect warrants further work as the anomalies remain unresolved. Further work will likely include ground electromagnetic and an air core program to better understand the geochemistry.
“The discovery of two ultramafic bodies at the Jimperding Project with highly anomalous nickel, copper and platinum values coincident with EM conductors is an exciting development,” Mandrake Managing Director James Allchurch said.
