Metallica Minerals (MLM) has successfully completed a 98-hole drilling program at its Cape Flattery Silica Sands (CFS) Project in Queensland.
The holes were drilled within the CFS Eastern Target Area using a vacuum-based drill rig.
Roughly 1700 metres of drilling was undertaken with 1610 samples sent to ALS laboratory in Townsville with results expected in Q4 2021.
Visual inspection of three samples has shown a high proportion of clean white sand.
Additionally, a LiDAR topographic survey was undertaken by Aerometrex and data is being processed with completion set for next week.
The data will be used to create a highly accurate digital elevation model that will be used for planning jetty and road placements.
Executive Chairman Theo Psaros said the presence of clean white sand is encouraging.
“The combination of infill and step out drilling will give us significantly more understanding of the silica sand resource. We continue to be encouraged from the visual inspection of the samples extracted showing a high proportion of clean white sand,” Mr Psaros said.
“We are very keen to progress our planning for the environmental studies and will resume discussions with the Traditional Land Owners to complete further cultural heritage and other Native Title Agreements.”
Further metallurgical studies on the silica sand samples are expected to begin in Q4.
