The statutory public consultation period for Kvanefjeld rare earth project was supposed to conclude on June 1 but has been extended to allow for further public meetings with a political representation.

The extension follows Greenland’s change of government in April 2021 which allows for an additional round of public meetings with the participation of key government Ministers.

The next series of public meetings are set to be held in Igaliku, Nanortalik, Narsaq, Narsarsuaq, Qaqortoq and Qassiarsuk in southern Greenland later this year and will include have political, administrative and company representation.

Public consultation is a statutory process for mining projects in Greenland, with the consultation process for the Kvanefjeld project initiated by the previous Greenland government on 17 December 2020.

Additionally, GGG said the government had confirmed subsequent casework on the processing of the Kvanefjeld exploitation license application will be completed.

GGG forecasts the Kvanefjeld Project could be a “globally significant” producer of commercially important rare earth elements including neodymium, praseodymium, terbium and dysprosium over an initial 37-year mine life.

Greenland Minerals shares are up 12.4 per cent following the announcement, trading at 10 cents at 3:00 pm AEST.
