Sayona Mining (SYA) has received quality confirmation of its Authier spodumene product following successful testing by lithium-ion battery specialist Novonix (NVX).

The tests were conducted at NVX’s Battery Technology Solution laboratories in Nova Scotia, Canada. They found product samples from Sayona’s Authier lithium project in Québec performed as well as benchmark lithium hydroxide samples in commercial performance tests.

“This is further independent verification of the performance of Authier spodumene and its suitability for conversion into lithium hydroxide, an extremely sought after product,” Sayona Managing Director Brett Lynch said.

“Sayona has committed to downstream processing in Québec, including lithium carbonate or hydroxide.

“These results by an industry‐leading battery tester have further increased confidence in our strategy, which will deliver added value for all stakeholders and support North America’s decarbonisation drive.”

In other news, the company is continuing drilling at its Moblan lithium project, with work tracking along as planned and expected to be completed this month.

The company said results from this drilling work were expected to further grow its expanding lithium resource base.

Shares in Sayona Mining were trading 34 per cent higher at 34 cents each at 11:52 am AEST.
