Traffic Technologies (TTI) has been awarded a contract to supply LED streetlights to the Ausgrid Operator Partnership in New South Wales.

The contract is for an initial three years, with an option to extend for a further two years. The LED lights will include pedestrian street lighting, vehicle road lighting and floodlight luminaires.

Ausgrid provides public lighting to more than 1.7 million homes and business across Sydney, Central Coast and the Hunter regions of New South Wales. There are approximately 260,000 street lights within the Ausgrid network, where approximately 25 per cent have been changed to LED technology.

Public lighting is currently undergoing a major transformation — after a consultation with customers, Ausgrid has started replacing older, less energy-efficient luminaires with LEDs. LED lighting delivers more sustainable lighting and has a lower carbon footprint.

The LEDs will connect to Ausgrid’s low voltage distribution network. They’ll be placed on steel or concrete poles, or in steel or aluminium street lighting brackets on timber poles.

Under the contract, Traffic Technologies will replace 64,000 luminaires with LED technology. The company said at this point it can’t put a figure on the estimated value of the contract, but it is expected to be a significant opportunity.

Managing Director Con Liosatos is pleased with the Ausgrid contract.

“We look forward to working with Ausgrid in delivering state of the art lighting and the development of innovative technology for the future,” he said.

“The award of this contract follows on from the company’s success in supplying LED streetlights for use by state road authorities and local councils across the eastern states of Australia,” he added.

On market close, Traffic Technologies is up 42.1 per cent and shares are trading for 2.7 cents per share.
