Two people are dead after an underground incident at Medusa Mining’s (MML) operation in the Philippines.

It appears a rockfall occurred within the underground area of the Co-O mine killing two workers and seriously injuring another. The third worker remains in hospital in a stable condition.

The Co-O mine is located in Central Eastern Mindanao and operated by Medusa’s subsidiary Philsaga Mining Corporation.

In a statement released today, the company said it is “deeply upset by the incident” and is providing support to the workers’ families and coworkers.

Work in the immediate area of the rockfall has been suspended until an investigation into the incident is completed. While work in other areas in the mine will continue to operate following inspections.

Following the tragic incident, the company’s shares are down 2.9 per cent to 67.5 cents at 11.33 AEDT.
