Viridis Mining and Minerals (VMM) has secured drill approvals for its South Kitikmeot project in Nunavut, Canada.

With the approvals in hand, Viridis said it intended to complete a maiden drill program at the Esker Lake property to confirm and expand the historical gold mineralisation discovered during work completed more than two decades ago.

The program will consist of up to 12 holes for a maximum total of 1000 metres and is hoped to provide a foundation for future exploration programs.

Since completing a ground magnetic survey at the Esker prospect in June, Viridis has continued the planning and permitting for its inaugural drill program. The survey generated a “promising” target area for future drilling programs to the northwest, along-strike from high-grade intercepts struck through historical drilling.

This target is interpreted as hosting a major structural intersection and disruption zone typical of hosting high-grade blowouts and ore shoots within the region.

Drilling is due to commence shortly, subject to drill rig availability and weather conditions.

Additionally, Viridis plans to conduct geophysical surveys over the remaining six properties which make up South Kitikmeot.

The South Kitikmeot gold project consists of seven properties spanning 11,448 hectares within the Back River–Contwoyto gold belt of western Nunavut.

Viridis Mining and Minerals shares were last trading at 27.5 cents at 12:30 pm AEDT.
