Western Mines (WMG) has observed over 300 metres of disseminated magmatic sulphides at its flagship Mulga Tank project in Western Australia.

Results have been received from three diamond holes – MTD018, MTD019 and MTD020 – which were drilled to follow up on historical drilling and test a discrete electromagnetic (EM) anomaly.

Best results came from MTD020 with two styles of visible nickel mineralisation observed over more than 300 metres from 120 to 512 metres.

Towards the end of the unit the dispersed sulphides combined into interstitial blebs containing three to five per cent sulphide.

“Hole MTD020 was drilled more towards the centre of the Mulga Tank body and was designed to test beneath historical hole MTD011, which showed numerous intersections of nickel-copper-platinum group element mineralisation,” Managing Director Caedmon Marriott said.

“Visible disseminated sulphides were seen throughout a thick high magnesium oxide dunite unit; this is very exciting and offers great encouragement for the prospectivity of this large ultramafic body to host both Mt Keith-style or Perseverance-style nickel sulphide deposits.”

Hole MTD018 observed one occurrence of visible nickel sulphide mineralisation at a depth of 159.9 metres while MTD019 observed no visible nickel mineralisation.

These findings provide encouragement to Mulga Tank’s prospectivity and suggest the potential for Type 2 Mt Keith-style disseminated sulphide deposits and Type 1 Perseverance-style basal massive sulphide deposits.

Samples from all three holes have been sent to the lab for geochemical assay with results expected throughout July and August.

Drilling is continuing with hole MTD021 in progress and downhole EM surveys are set to be undertaken shortly to look for off-hole follow-up targets.

Shares in Western Miners were up 15.2 per cent on the market and were trading at 19 cents at 11:55 am AEST.
